Corners of My Mind
Know who you are; be humble, but proud

Anybody who says Asian Americans do not have a unique culture is dead wrong. We are so very different from everything else I know. We acknowledge our heritage— indeed we should own it proudly, but please, without ethnic generalizations— and at the same time have a culture and a nationality different from what our physical appearance tells the world. And for those, like me, who grew up in an Asian/Asian American enclave, we have a different way of approaching things, of interacting with each other. It is so very far from the mainstream white American way that it is often difficult to merge the two and not feel anger, frustration and pain.
